For the social work degree program, proximity to actual professional practice is an important point of reference throughout the entire academic training. The single-phase training model, i.e. the integration of the practical phases into the degree course, has proven its worth. This training model familiarizes students with professional practice at an early stage of their education and gives them sufficient opportunity to reflect on these experiences as they progress through their studies.
The course provides fortwo internships with a total of 40 weeks in social work institutions in the thirdand sixth semesters. The first practical semester (intervention-oriented internship comprising 20 weeks of practical contact time) focuses on direct professional contact with social work clients. The second practical semester (organization-oriented internship with 20 weeks of practical contact time) is primarily concerned with the organizational framework in which social work is carried out, i.e. the acquisition of basic skills in the areas of social administration, social planning and social management.
Students are prepared for the practical phases through various advisory and teaching services offered by the university. The internships are completed under the supervision of a qualified social worker/social education worker or a specialist with comparable qualifications
