Course content

The Master's degree programme "Management of Social Change" at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences deals with social, economic, technological, political and cultural change processes at all levels of society, which increasingly confront not only organizations (such as administrations, political parties, commercial enterprises or welfare state organizations), but also social groups and individuals with new and diverse demands. From an interdisciplinary perspective, central development trends, structures and actors of the change processes are analyzed. On the other hand, approaches and methods of managing social change are taught. These approaches relate both to the early recognition of change processes and to strategies and techniques for targeted initiation and control.

The modularization of content, including the credit point system (ECTS), and the temporal structure of the course also corresponds to its didactic and organizational design in the form of attendance and self-study times as well as consultative forms of communication.

Master's in Management of Social Change I (120 CP, 4 semesters, start: winter semester)
The first semester of the four-semester Master's course provides an in-depth insight into social science thinking, theory formation and empirical applications and is supplemented by a practical study phase (research internship). In the study modules of the second semester, theoretical-conceptual approaches and fields as well as process types of social change are dealt with in particular. In the third semester, central social science methods of change research are acquired on the one hand and management approaches are explored and applied on the other. The courses offered as part of two compulsory elective modules provide essential insights into the opportunities, actors and techniques of management at the macro and meso level (such as commercial enterprises, third sector organizations or administrations). The modules in the fourth semester include application and practice-oriented teaching in the areas of methodology, ethics and consulting as well as the final module (Master's thesis and colloquium).

Master's in Management of Social Change II (90 CP, 3 semesters, start: summer semester)
The three-semester version corresponds to the four-semester version except for the modules and content of the first semester.
