Can political education be fun? What actually is democracy? Do educational professionals need political education? How can democratic discourse be strengthened? Questions like these were the focus of the event "Demokratie verspielt?!", which was held on January 11, 2024 by students in the 7th semester of the Social Work course at the Faculty of Social Sciences.

With mulled wine, children's punch and waffles from the student council, various low-threshold impulses and playful offers invited people to exchange ideas and reflect on basic rights, their own understanding of democracy, privileges, forms of discrimination, but also civic engagement in the region. The student podcast project "Mensch Görlitz" also took part, providing inspiration on the topic of everyday racism. The animated short film "Obervogelgesang" by Ferdinand Ehrhardt and Elias Weinberger also confronted the question of the (ascribed) political realities in rural Saxony and what is needed in order not to gamble away democracy.
