In view of the planned budget cuts in the city of Dresden, we would like to approach you and draw your attention to the serious consequences of these cuts. The planned cuts will primarily affect the social sector and threaten to drastically reduce the necessary support for vulnerable groups as well as the infrastructure for social and cultural services. The city's social, educational and cultural services are facing a far-reaching reduction. This will also affect many of our faculty's students and employees, whether due to internships, professional practice or their current or future place of residence and work.
A budget deficit of 70 million euros from 2025 is to be offset by far-reaching savings in the funding of social facilities, cultural offerings and public services. In particular, the area of child and youth welfare is to be cut by around 30% of the previous funding for independent providers, which means the closure of numerous projects, facilities and school social work.
Young people and families will be particularly affected. Further drastic cuts are to be made to social and health services, such as integration, prevention and equality work, street work and advice centers. Local public transport, cultural institutions and social services are also to be decimated.
In order to send a strong signal against these cuts, the Dresden Alliance Against Cuts has been formed, a coalition of initiatives, associations, professionals and citizens who are calling on the city of Dresden to campaign for an increase in state and federal funding.
We would therefore like to encourage you to join us in supporting the preservation of these essential structures.
