Can political education be fun? Can you dance politics? What role does political education play in education? As part of the "Social Group Work" and "Current Issues" courses, social work students, with the support of the "Democracy and Diversity" working group, organized a varied programme on 22.05.2024 to discuss questions like these together.
For the second time this year, the faculty invited students to discuss and reflect on fundamental rights, their own understanding of democracy, privileges and forms of discrimination, as well as civic engagement in the region. In addition to various playful impulses, there was a fishbowl discussion in which everyone was invited to join in the discussion about the understanding of democracy and politics. There was also the opportunity to give feedback on a first draft of the principles of democratic living, working and studying at the Faculty of Social Sciences. The animated short film "Obervogelgesang" was also shown. The film by Ferdinand Ehrhardt and Elias Weinberger confronts the question of the (ascribed) political realities in rural Saxony and what it takes to avoid gambling away democracy. At the DiskutierBAR, the project "Mensch, Görlitz!" provided drinks and snacks and further impulses on the topic of everyday racism.
