The Faculty of Social Sciences celebrates its 30th anniversary.
The Faculty of Social Sciences celebrated its 30th anniversary with a festive event on 23.11.2022, to which the founding dean of the faculty, Prof. Dr. rer. soc. Hermann Heitkamp was warmly welcomed.
The Faculty of Social Sciences enrolled students for the first time in the winter semester of 1992/93. The faculty now has the largest number of students at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and has a broad network of practical partners in the region and beyond.
Vice-Rector for Research Prof. Dr. phil. habil. Kollmorgen welcomed the participants and praised the faculty's contribution to securing skilled workers in the region. Rector Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kratzsch also emphasized in his greeting that the focus of the degree programmes on people and society is indispensable for university development.
Under the motto "Degree courses at the Faculty of Social Sciences and their contribution to professional development", the course coordinators of the Bachelor's and Master's degree courses looked at the respective histories and discussed the specific contribution that the academic qualification here in Görlitz makes to the development of a professional self-image and how students are prepared for professional action in social contexts.
The subsequent panel discussion between the founding dean Prof. Dr. rer. soc. Hermann Heitkamp, the former Prof.'in Dr. phil. Brigitte Pyerin, the Dean Prof. Dr. phil. habil. Andrea G. Eckhardt and the Vice Dean Prof. Dr. phil. Torsten Linke, led by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Matthias Schmidt, highlighted both historical milestones and the faculty's potential for development. In a concluding summary, colleagues Heitkamp and Pyerin paid tribute to the development that the faculty has undergone so far and wished it success and strength in dealing with current challenges and in the strategic further development of the degree programs and the faculty as a whole.
