On the "discomfort" in professional collaboration with migrants
After successfully completing her dissertation, Monique Ritter's book has now been published by Transcript-Verlag.
Racism is part of everyday life and is an integral and integrating part of our society. Statements such as: "I'm actually open-minded, but..." both deny and confirm this reality. In geriatric care, such sentences mark a request for exclusion from working with migrant care staff.
Monique Ritter chooses multidisciplinary approaches in order to understand the "but" contextually using the example of home care for the elderly in East Germany. In doing so, she not only links racism-critical, post-colonial and socio-economic dimensions of discomfort, but also refers to the specific historical life experiences in the GDR and the (post-)reunification period.
