Germany needs nursing staff and is also recruiting them from abroad. Immigrants face particular challenges in their day-to-day care work.
In the care sector, they often encounter working cultures that differ from those in their countries of origin. This includes, for example, different professional self-perceptions (e.g. the importance of emotions in or social appreciation of care work) and specialist skills. The recognition of qualifications obtained abroad, German language requirements and everyday racist experiences also prove to be challenging.
